MASHPEE — The Mashpee Sewer Commission voted 3-1 to grant a flow-neutral bylaw variance for the Cranberry Point project. Attorney Jack McElhinney, representing owner Southworth Mashpee Properties, pledged to connect future workforce housing to the Willowbend plant, assign the town nitrogen credits, and share excess treatment capacity with unsewered neighborhoods along Shoestring Bay. Stantec engineer Kevin Klein said the net nitrogen credit to the town would be "about 90 pounds per year." The approval is contingent on the terms being memorialized in a memorandum of understanding with the town.

GHD's Mark Drainville reported the plant has passed performance testing at 3 milligrams of total nitrogen per liter. The superintendent recommended against deferring roughly $12 million in unspent state revolving fund money and commissioners unanimously approved a $294.40 sewer bill abatement for 17 Ship's Wheel Drive.
