Other Committee · Meeting of August 25, 2026
Mashpee's Community Preservation Committee found its real surplus is $7.4 million, not the $7.1 million cited publicly. Finance Director Dawn Thayer told the committee that closing four completed projects, including the Aqua Bay boat ramp and Pickerel Cove land purchase, freed $3,027,562, raising uncommitted funds from $4,382,230 to $7,409,792.53. Member Lynn said, "I don't see anywhere on the pieces of paper that I have anything about $7 million." Member Arden backed a Select Board-recommended warrant article shifting a percentage point of CPA surcharge to the town's Water Infrastructure Fund, saying it "shouldn't be a stagnant decision." The Finance Committee had not yet voted on either article as of the meeting, and one member said the process had been "super secret for a while."
